I try to keep the gear I use out of my tackle box until it's rinsed with fresh water. I replace any rusty hooks with new ones every year. Gear is getting so expensive I have to take care of it or I won't have any money left to buy this years latest and greatest. LOL

Cheers ME

my lil trick is to clean my spoons with wd40...keeps them shinny as a new nickel and at the end of season give them a wipedown with wd40 before i put the box away for the winter...pulled out the box couple weeks ago and the spoons are as shinny as they were when put them away in the fall

wd40 <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>thanks

I find that using that salt away stuff works great and it is not as messy as WD40. I use it on all my fishing equipment great stuff and it is pretty reasonable

Wd40 used to attract fish when they had fishoil in it but it no longer does now its a harsher chemical that they put in it.

WD-40 = NASA's 40th attempt at water displacement! Now it is apparently about90% petroleum based. Not the nicest stuff to be putting in the water!Rinse with fresh water and hang till dry, wrap 'em up and put them away.

i don`t like poluting the ocean any more then the next guy , thanks <img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle>

yeah, well never knew that i dont wanna polute the ocean either, guess id better look into something else......maybe vegetable oil,,?

cheers steely

How about fish oil or maybe Pam? gets a little smelly but wont rust. I was reading a old fishing magazine from 1940 and that talked about boiling down the liver a rat fish for reel oil. Has anyone else ever heard of that?
