Looks like West Marine will be closing their Canadian outlets as their lease expires in each location. While not always the lowest cost, I do find the guys in the Victoria store extremely helpful and generous with sponsorships. There will certainly be a hole in the market.

The closure of their outlets is likely a result of our global economy and the shift to online purchasing.

Nikka, now Westmarine? The options are diminishing. Westmarine must have 6 stores in BC. Its a loss.

The Vancouver store went through Staff like **** through a goose, the manager was the reason why, senior company management knew but couldn't care less.

Management driving away staff is going to be a continuing trend with the difference between the work styles of the younger and older generations.

Old school cracking of the whip is obsolete, IMHO.

The most successful management and executive level people I know have come to this conclusion and adapted their management style to facilitate a positive work environment for their staff.

Others.... seem to be stuck under a rock and have their whip on quick draw...

Hard to compete with people buying online now (electronics, etc), especially when your prices are jacked up sky high like they are at WM!

Wouldn't say jacked sky high...would say they have larger stores with larger costs to cover. If you want to shop, talk and feel the product before you buy then it costs more than looking at a picture on the laptop and ordering online.

Have to agree with the management styles to a certain extent. Just watched the Clint Eastwood movie "Letters From Iwo Jima". It's not a new concept, as dramatized in the movie... Good flik if you can get over the subtitles.

Yeah nothing like actually feeling quality and talking to guys that know their stuff.
Big hole in The market for sure.

That's too bad.I've done quite a bit of business at the Nanaimo store and they were always very good to deal with. They
would also have some good sales on at times like their 2 cycle oil at 50% off.I'll think I'll probably miss them.

Loss of WM is really no loss. Every time I went in there I was shocked at the prices. They're not leaving because of the internet. They're leaving cause thay can't compete. HC is my store so nothing changes.

Like stated above they could never compete , besides the half price mix oil that came on special and the friendly staff, i did buy my grundins there.. Rip WM
