Wellcraft coastal 232

Anyone have any first hand experience with these boats? I'm looking at taking a step up in size from my current 17 ft arima and am going to take a look at one of these. I was able to find a few threads to read on thehulltruth and it seemed to be all positive but its always nice to hear more input. Reading into the construction of the hulls they are all hand-laid fiberglass with no wood use for any of the structural elements. The boat in question is a 2007 coastal 232 with a 200hp yamaha and a 9.9 kicker.

The arima I have currently has been a great little boat but we are looking to upsize a bit to give ourselves some more opportunities and be able to spend the odd night in the cuddy. Any input is appreciated

Mine is older and podded, love it, one of the best riding hill I’ve been on, not sure of the newer ones, mine is all wood structure take it for a sea trial, I the @trophywife is on the ball for underpowered a bit

232 seems underpowered with a 200.. wellcraft are decent boats.
A concern for sure. I’ve read some reviews of guys being happy with a 200 but most recommend a 250. Can see how it responds on a sea trial if it gets to that point

What year of Yami? The old 200’s had some good torque, new ones not so much
Not sure. The year wasn’t included in the initial details. Hopefully will be seeing it soon and can find out more

Quality well made boat in my overall opinion that comfortably handled WCVI waters if you are a fisher person. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy one again. The Wellcraft is a heavy boat (approx 6.5k loaded with a 450 litre gas tank ) so as mentioned by Trophywife, definitely underpowered with a 200 Yamaha. 225 minimum, ideally a 250 (WOT 40mph). A sea trial will give you a pretty good idea.

Thanks for the info everyone. Unfortunately it looks like any excitement for this one is done. I was supposed to be going to see it today but they now have a pending sale in place. The search continues. Thanks again for the quick replies

They are really well built,a local guide has run one for many years.I can't see a 200 being enough power though.Pending offers don't always follow through for many reasons, see if you can be next in line if into it.

For sure. He said he will let me know if it falls through

i cant see this performing at all in a swell.

Maybe see if he is willing to move on price? Looks like new, sure everything is off warranty but there is a lot of beat up boats out there where you can easily spend 30k on them in your first year or second year....
I guess it never hurts to ask. I know it would depend on a lot of factors but how much would you realistically think someone would move if you were going to try? More just asking to learn because I don't have much experience buying used boats. I think I'd have to go into the insulting range in this case

Insult away lol, the worse is going to tell you to pound sand lol, you could be surprised not much moving right now unless price is right, that boat has been for sale for probably a year

Also so you know the 252, bigger brother to that one was 125k new in 2017, I almost bought one locally it’s the only one I’ve ever seen new locally, so his asking price is probably more then he paid for, assuming he bought it new
