Weird rod

Got this in an estate package that I am selling on behalf of Courtenay Fish and Game... It an old cane rod with a hardwood handle. 6 ft in length, and quite a heavy beast. Its the eyes that have me stumped. It has a standard single eye about 2 ft from the butt. Then there is a DOUBLE back to back eye 18in further up the rod. The top eye is strait....... Couple of pics-- anyone know what its for?

I believe it would be for switching the side of the rod you fish with day to day so you don't get a permanent bend in the cane

No really... that why the end eye is like that ;)

Early 1900's... any name on the rod?

Thanks Lippy... no name as the lacquer finish is badly peeled. As far as the double eye... when the reel is mounted in the reel seat , the eyes are not on opposite sides of the rod-- rather top and bottom of the rod. So I cant figure it out at all!!! Do you know of any references??

Thanks
Bryan

does the reel seat spin from side to side? maybe held in place with some sort of a locking pin,
lippy is correct it was to keep the bamboo/cane from developing a permanent arc/bow
can you post a pic of the reel seat too?

CIVANO-- I think you have nailed it!!! Almost certain that it is a Vintage Horrocks Ibbotson Potomac Genuine Tonkin Cane Bamboo Boat Rod.

However-- it is in nowhere near as good shape as the one you posted. The thread wrappings need redoing, and the I bet the ferrule is frozen. The reel seat is corroded and needs polishing. But the cane seems to be in very good shape making for a good restoration project. (Not me-- I am going to flog it for what I can get for the club)

Thanks for digging this one out of the dark! (and you too Lippy-- seems you called it right)
