Weather at Bamfield

Thinking of going down to the Sound in a couple of days.
I have postponed it for a week now because of the weather reports at Cape Beale lighthouse
giving reports of fog with crappy visibility.
The question I have is, are the conditions offshore normally better than closer in ?
I had in mind to go to 7 mile bank on Friday.
I do have radar but the missus isn't so keen if she can't see where she is going.
Thanks

Fog and West Coast Vancouver island go hand in hand in August.

Expect fog. We had solid fog days all last week. Sunday morning it was pushed in thick but two miles out was totally clear at south bank.. Sometimes it pushes in to either trevor or imperial channel... Ya just never know so expect it and hope it burns off like it normally does...

They don't call August "fogust" for nothing. You've got radar, go no faster than you can see - e.g. the visibility isn't zero it's 100ft, 100yds etc. Go slow enough so you can stop when/if you see something. The wife will get used to it, just take it easy.
