Never a Bauer. A friends good friend made similar 18’s in Nanaimo for years and has retired. I fished them quite a bit, they were too narrow for scotty’s but fatso peanut butter jars drilled with holes worked well. I just bought two square ones with Scotty paint cups in them. Mostly just want to store them outside and get garage space back!Have you used the 18x18 Bauers before? I like them for the more compact form factor and lower drag, just be aware their centre bait/weight pocket is too small to accept the Scotty bait jars that are common out there. Kufa makes one that fits.
Wouldn't be good enough in Washington! Their crazy 4 hour openings drive people to 45-60 minute soaks, and trap resets approaching F1 pit stop speeds. They'll have three sets of bait jars loaded with ultrastink the night before just to shave a few minutes. My 18x18 prawn traps don’t have the middle enclosure so I just fastened the narrow orange bait can lid to the center of the bottom with some galvanized wire. It’s simple to fill the bait can and screw it in to the lid with the trap on its side.
That would kind of take the fun out of it for me.Wouldn't be good enough in Washington! Their crazy 4 hour openings drive people to 45-60 minute soaks, and trap resets approaching F1 pit stop speeds. That, and the 80 a day limit. And the traps set barely metres from yours, the authorities prowling around looking for reg infractions. My friends from Puget Sound area are amazed that we can go out any day we want, and leave traps in as long as we want. They did teach me some lessons about the importance of scent though. Everything else is secondary to scent. That would kind of take the fun out of it for me.
Yes. Washington is a waste of time. Only a couple of 3 day openings a year. 4 traps per boat no matter how many licenses on board. I prawn in the SanJuans just for the boat ride. I only need a thousand prawns a year anyway.Wouldn't be good enough in Washington! Their crazy 4 hour openings drive people to 45-60 minute soaks, and trap resets approaching F1 pit stop speeds.
