Sculpin...John I think your name is...you hit hit a raw nerve that flooded back memories. Thousands of hours on a boat with the same style hull, built in Prince Rupert, with my Dad and Brother.
Don't know if I should be p***ed at you or thank you...

No, sorry I don't recognize these fellas. Brother passed on many years ago, this vids brought back the times we worked hard and fought the weather, fatigue, and changing Federal Regs that ultimately slashed this sector to less than half. Rec boys down south are upset with recent curtailment to chinook harvesting...alot of these guys (WC Trollers) lost everything, boat, licenses, homes, and yes many families were destroyed.
Federal Courts-Sparrow Decision ordered larger involvement of FN in all commercial fishing and harvesting of pacific stocks.
Nowadays, I'm driven back on the water just for enjoyment, don't even need to catch fish to enjoy these precious moments.
Edit:forgot to add FN in that sentence. Sparrow Decision was the first of many that defined FN rights
Its important to remember that DFO is a puppet for the Political Flavor of the Day and what the courts have ordered. The WC Trollers were a fiercely independent group of individuals, much like my Dad, who ultimately broke away from BC Packers, Canfisco, ect and sold to independent Fish Buyers/Processors.
Big Business had little control over us, but they did have political pull on DFO decision-making process, that transferred more harvesting rights to other sectors.
Me too. Commerical trolled out of Ukie from 86 to 91. Some days were fun as hell, others were living hell. Having said
that, I still miss it. Thanks for the flashbacks.
My Dad asked recently, he is 85, what did I like the most about our time fishing Coastal BC...I answered it was exploring the BC coast from Vancouver Island to the Northern Alaska/BC border and including Queen Charlotte Islands.
That part of the fishery was priceless, people come from all over the world to enjoy what we have at our doorstep!!!
