Hey guys, anyone considering going to this event?

I am up for carpooling if anyone is interested. Saves a little in Ferrie costs and of course the more the merrier in the protest against current fish farming practices.

Say no more....

I am definitely going to this. I get so heated and yell at the computer screen at times. The initiative has been shown. This is our chance to show our numbers. I would be a hypocrit if I did not attend this rally. If nobody shows up the government will affirm the green light and continue to wager our resources to other countries.

We'll be going, but live close enough to take transit, so don't need a carpool. With the NW winds forecast to be high, there's no fishing excuse to keep us away. Hope there's a good turnout. Too bad the t-shirts didn't make it in time.

Was a great turn out, however it would have been nice to see more of you guys out there. Not just one variable that is solely responsible for the demise of our fishery I know, however, it is only our joint effort that will been taken seriously by the powers that be in our government. Attacking one issue at a time will ensure that we make a differance and impose our beleif that our wild fish are something we are unwillling to just let collapse.

We need to all join forces here to ensure the message is loud and clear. Commercial, First nations, sport, general public, we all need to set aside our differances and fight these issues together.

Man, I was impressed with the people who showed up at this rally. All walks of life were present. We all had one objective in common. Save our wild salmon!

I am glad I was there to be a part of the show. It won't stop there. I will continue to write letters to Shae Gale and let her know the importance of our resources and the wild salmon in particular and how my family depends on it's survival.

PS, Kelly, thanks for letting this post ride in the Saltwater section for as long as it has. I was trying to get it to the forefront of the forums.

If you feel it would be better suited to the Politics section now then go for it.
Much appreciated!

I was there at the rally. I wanted to go fishing but this was more important . ( I was right at the front of the crowd with my son) and I was pretty happy to see a good turn out and thought the speeches were good and to the point. The speech by the independant research scientist was especially good , I thought ( sorry forgot his name)

I got one of the Salmon Lice DVD's and signed a petition or two. I liked when they put up the sign with the two e-mail adresses for Harper and the fisheries minister Gail Shea ( pm@pm.gc.ca ) (min@dfo-mpo.gc.ca) and asked that everyone text a message REMOVE SALMON FARMS NOW!! My son is so quick with the texting he had the message sent before I could even pull out my phone!! The comments by the first nations people was great. This is certainly one issue that all sectors can agree on....that is that DFO has failed at looking after our wild salmon and that they are "in bed" with the aquaculture industry. It was amazing to learn that 92% of all BC Salmon farms are from Norway. I find that rather ironic because 92% of our Sockeye run disappeared this year !! Could this be telling us something ?
I was kind of disapointed that I didn't see any of my guide association members out there yesterday but then again I may have missed seeing any of them , if any were in fact there. I was amazed at how many young people were attending and especially how many women were there. Infact I met a wonderful young lady there too...a biologist with very similar interests ( this may be a first....going fishing on a first date !! )
All in all a pretty good afternoon.
When I get time this week I'll post some photos of the rally ...either on this thread or one of the other fishing politics one.
One thing that all can do if they couldn't make this rally as quoted from A. Morton:

"If you could not be there you can help by contacting your MP telling them
to ask Prime Minister Harper everyday in question period what he has
done to bring our sockeye salmon back from collapse. Why has the
Minister of Fisheries, Gail Shea and her top BC official Paul Sprout
said that fish farms will not be part of this investigation? Ask your
MP everyday for a Judicial Inquiry into the disease history of every
salmon farm in the spring of 2007 when our sockeye were last seen".

Another organization that was represented at the rally that is worth looking at and filling out their petition against Salmon Farming (and has links to Morton's adpopt-a-fry site) is www.wildsalmoncircle.com

My girlfriend, myself and a few others were there as well, with pickets in hand and fish shirts on. I agree that the scientist from SFU spoke very well. Also, the two natives representing the band in the Broughton gave very good speeches.

Fog Ducker was there as well
Great turnout , Sun was shining , Mark ( HighLights )thanks for the literature ya fired off to me , I knew a little about the Lice , Fish Farm Issues , but , I am glad I was there to really get up to speed on this disaster in the brewing , It has to STOP NOW !! I myself was shocked to also here , over 90 % of these farms are ran by Norway Corps , absolute no gain to our economy ,placed right in line with our major migratory run of Salmon ,,minimal jobs , the fish are all imported , mostly to the US , ???..WTF... They gotta go.... I agree , this may not be the one and only issue that needs to be addressed NOW , but , a major one indeed.
The Speeches were to the point , A Professor( SFU , I believe ) , FN , as well as a Commercial Fisheries Rep , we were all on the same page , nice to see..
Most impressed , the response to Alexandra Morton , Standing O , watched many of her tv appearances in the past, was nice to meet her in person , again , thanks for all your hard work.
I also strongly urge our members to fire off some emails, minister Gail Shea ( pm@pm.gc.ca ) (min@dfo-mpo.gc.ca) ' REMOVE SALMON FARMS NOW!! ,,,,,,,also have a peak at this...www.wildsalmoncircle.com Sign up , maybe make a small donation , if you can , I seen alot of generous drops in the bucket at the Rally ,

Here is a link to Alexandra Mortons Video, very helpfull info, http://video.nytimes.com/video/2008/11/04/science/1194831199078/alexandra-mortons-salmon-fight.html

Great Rally , Was very impressed , , There were a few smokin hotties there ,,JEEESUSS,,lol,,[:o)]

......Felix dude you crack me up. Can always count on turning an event like that into even the slightest bit of entertainment in terms of "hotties" hey

I agree, I saw a few there that were pushing the boundries yet still had some serious hot edge to them!

I was parked down at Canada Place and guess what......National yoga conference. LULULEMON everywhere in a 10 mile radius. Days have changed. These are no longer the aged hippies redefining themselves post menopause, but rather smokin young hotties.

Good times!

Applause for those who could and did make the effort to attend.
Well done!
Without the public participation it could/would turn into another academic debate.

Finally , here are some photos from the rally. Better late than never I guess.
Any forum members recognizable ?
