Use Sardines Much?

Someone in another thread mentioned using Sardines in a holder like we do Anchovy.

The only time I've bought them was when I couldn't get Anchovy and I wasn't too impressed with the rounder body couldn't get the right roll.

OTOH there's all kinds of ways to fish bait in a holder, what's your experience?

What kind of teaser head (JDF?)/special colour?

Sardines make a good substitute for anchovies or herring. They should be brined or used in a wire-rigged teaser for best results. I have had good success at Beecher Bay and excellent results at Bamfield when I used them there.

I've only ever used the huge ones for halibut bait and it's awesome.

I've often wondered about trolling them if a guy could get a bit smaller sized. I'm going to make sure I have a rake or at least herring rig ready on a rod this season in case I encounter another massive field of them like last year.

Gimee the gaff!!!

The only success I have had with the sardines was small 5in to 5 1/4
running them with a Kripple K head. The small stuff kicked butt off the WCVI & would use it in a heart beat.I got a hold of a small amount of the product out of the U.S. 4 years ago and have not been able to get any since. The large Sardines are real tough to get them to work right, can be done but I think you would have better success with a large Anchovy.
