Union Bay Boat Launch

Comox launch is insanity on good days. Point Holmes is a nightmare if the winds pick up. Was thinking of trying Union Bay some time but have a question

I went to check it out, quiet and in good condition, nice little dock, protected, but so shallow!

Anyone have much experience launching here? I imagine you really have to plan the tides well, OR be willing to give your truck a salt bath?

(Should add, that I typically use Kitty, but Union Bay might be good for days when going to the beach at Tree Island or Hornby. Would not launch there if I was fishing at the hump, too much of a run!)

The actual launch is only useable at high tides and would also depend on the draft of your boat. At other times, you need to back in beside the launch and angle towards the breakwater as there is a deep(er) channel there. It can be an adventure and I have seen many stuck trucks there. I'd strongly encourage you to check it out at a number of different tide heights.
