hi,

hoping I can get some advice on ukee

I've fished out of ukee twice but always on other peoples boats and always offshore out in the swell.

My kids and wife want to go to ukee this weekend but alas they start hurling as soon as we are in the swell. Anyone have any advice on areas I should fish for chinook and halis, that are out of the swell? Can't use gravol, etc....i have kids that won't take pills, etc, but just wanted advice if it is even worth trying to fish there with them? (I'm only in a 16' c-dory)

thanks alot,
ryan

I've heard of halis at Chrow Island (just out of Ukee heading towards Barkley Sound) though I've never fished there myself.

Just past there is Great Bear and Alley---I got both halis and springs there last week. More or less protected, although strong NW will swell it up a bit.

A 20 min ride from there heading into Barkley Sound (through the passage between Clark and Benson Island) is Austin Island / Meares Bluff---good protection from NW wind---can be calm as a millpond when it's blowing outside---I got both springs and hali there also last week.

I'm sure lots of other guys will chime in with their spots but those worked for me when the wind was blowing

good luck

Good advice sharphooks. Yes you can pick up halibut at Chrow as we picked up two there yesterday lol. I'll add that quite a few folks pick up halibut and salmon in the channel right out front of Muscle Beach and Salmon Beach.

thx very much for the info.....that is great.....now I need to look at the charts and plot some waypoints into the gps, since i'm not familiar with all the places.

This was very accurate last Friday and Saturday. No swell or wind last Saturday like a lake. Never would have thought about going to Big bank in my boat until we got out there. Doesn't look as good for this Saturday.
Another option for protected waters is Tofino, but catch and release for springs there after August first. Lots of cohos around though.
