Fishing in Ucluelet is heating up this summer (regardless of the foggy weather!) with the big summer long Ucluelet Salmon Ladder Derby. Each month the top 4 fish get big monthly prizes, like $7000 for first place, and then fish off in September with the top 50 of the season for up to $60, 000 in cash and prizes.
July's biggest fish is 43lbs-13oz caught earlier today outside of South Bank, caught by Claude Rampone. He beat out Kayla Hatters 42lbs-11oz caught last week. The big ones are biting and this derby is going off! I'll post an album in the gallery section of the biggest fish caught so far.
All proceeds are going to the Ucluelet Salmon Enhancement Society and specifically to the Thornton Creek Hatchery Project.
