Looking to spend a full week in Ucluelet in July. I understand that the marina at Island West is in disrepair and not a great option. The government dock was recommended as a better choice. Was wondering if you could make a reservation at the government dock or if it is just first come, first served. I don't need power. Any local insight is appreciated.

The Marina at Islands West is fine. The boat ramp could use some maintenance but it's a pretty good place to stay. I'm booked in there for mid August and I'll probably be there in July as well.
Moorage in July isn't too hard to get in Ucluelet. August is another story!

Agree with Vettman. I pulled my boat out of the water at the Islands West ramp after my tow experience and found that as long as you stay close to the wall on the left, it was just fine.
I stay at IslandWest also and have never had a problem. It's not great but it works. There's showers and $hitters and the pub is right upstairs. Not to far to the store and restaurants. The ramp is fine the only thing to watch out for is part of the ramp has broken away at the bottom. At very low tides it is a problem, your tires fall in the ditch and your trailer frame will be high centred. Other then that it's fine. There's even a wash down hose at the top of the ramp to wash your boat down before the trip home and flush the motors. If you need accommodation stay at the West Coast Motel. I'll be there mid August as well.
The government dock or Island West is very similar if you stay at the government dock we have a couple places available for rent right above the government dock
Had a tough weekend in that department. Didn't put a ton of time in mind you, had a few pukers in the group so the tougher weather made it difficult to keep everyone comfortable. Ended up with a 12lb spring from mears. But the family had a great time!
Was a little lumpy for sure gravol the night before and the morning of can sometimes make even the most likely to get seasick not get it. Getting seasick definitely takes the enjoyment out of it hopefully it wasn't all day makes one appreciate the dock and land when you climb out of the boat. Glad to hear you had a good time other wise, we ran offshore and down the coastline it paid off but was a long run getting there having to go straight into the swells and white caps on top. Coming back with the waves was smooth still took a while though. Thanks for staying with us.
