Hi My Dad,brother and I have been making our annual fishing trip in Nootka Sound for the past 7 years. Now we want to try changing to Ucluelet/Barkley Sound.

We fish salmon, hali and rock fish. We have our own boat and gear (22 C-Dory). We like to fish outside with the possibililty to come back inside quickly if the weather turns.

Any recommendations on areas to fish and reasonable accommodations (with kitchenette).

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Use the search function and read past year's Ukee fishing threads. Go to Pioneer Boat Works and spend a bit of $ on bait, latest hot hoochie or spoon and they'll let you copy down all the known Ukee hotspots and banks from their marked chart - Turtles Head, Inside and Outside South Bank, Adipose, Lighthouse, Hyson, Starfish, Longbeach, Big Bank, PacMan, Whale's Tail and Rat's Nose, amongst other offshore banks, near and far, are all marked. Then, buy a couple of six packs of cold lucky lager and head down to the government dock and talk to the local guides. Barkley Sound and the banks encompass such a huge area and so much good fishing, folks aren't as secretive as in other places. You likely won't get any prawn or lingcod honey holes, but you'll get solid information on how to get started on the banks and some go to spots on the inside when it's snotty outside.

Inside, everyone knows Great Bear, Sail, Meares Bluff, Cree and Swale rock - all easy to find on charts and more than enough to get you stared.
