Very cool, thanks for sharing. Definitely going to try to get a peak when she comes to Nanoose. Looks like they stopped to do a little hali fishing on the pick. ;)

Before 911 we could troll around them so close like within spitting distance it was amazing, everything has changed now of course......

I remember years ago when the G Washington, sistership but newer I think?
The thing was massive......the flight deck hung out so far that it got dark as we trolled beside it.
Insane pieces of machinery for sure, I worked with a guy that spent 8 weeks a year stationed in Bremerton, he had many stories and pics of these awesome monsters.

I was in San Diego, CA few years ago, saw a few large aircraft carriers at the dock. It might be one of them. I was a tourist visiting the older fleet....ya...pretty massive!!

I remember that one would come this time every year before 2001 can't remember all of them but 66 sticks in my mind I think it was the USS Enterprise, we even thought one year about trolling between the boat and the anchor chain there was sure enough room but we didn't.......

Ok so it was 65 my bad........

Wasn't far off this carrier this past weekend while I was fishing off of esquimalt for hali. It was just us, the carrier, and a destroyer circling close by. We blamed the many electronics and MASSIVE rotating radar dish on the carrier for the poor fishing :P

tried to get a look tonight after the Nimitz appeared on BWD leaving ogden point, thought it would be out front by now but I guess it will slip in under the cover of darkness..It definitely is a massive beast..

Saw it last Saturday when driving around the Victoria area.
Back in 1965 and '66 I was a Radioman on HMCS Sussexvale and we visited San Diego regularly.
As I recall the USS Enterprise's home port was San Diego and the other biggie of the day, the USS Constellation's home port was San Francisco.
I remember the first time I saw the Enterprise at sea.........it didn't seem that big a deal and she looked just like a few other carriers looked like when they were a couple of miles away...............only then our Captain told us she was actually nine miles away at the time.
Passing by her a few days later as she was at anchor in San Diego harbour one got the true size of her firmly imprinted, believe me.
I recall she had 5,800 people on her at the time, as did the Conny, which was just about two thirds of our whole Navy............... on just two American ships.
In the 60's they were the two biggest warships in the world and they can haul butt when they want to, believe me.
Very fast for giant sized ships.

Take care.
