Ahh the nephew has taken delivery of his new to him Sid Skiff, hand built at the Port Townsend School of Boat Building in 1997.
His plans are to spend some time this summer around Port Angeles learning the finer art of pulling plugs behind a hand rowed skiff in the pursuit of large Chinook Salmon. Then a trip with the skiff to Campbell River next year for an advanced course in plugging in the rowboat for Campbell River Tyee.
I have been helping him set up with a few Peetz reels and a Daiwa Mooching Reel set up in your B.C. fashion on a proper "Canadian Mooching Rod". We have found a few Rosegard and Martin wood plugs, need a couple of experienced Lucky Louies. He received an order of Tubbies from Tomic a few weeks ago.
Meanwhile I will continue my "Yankee" style of fishing in my 22 foot Mako with downriggers. Might take a spin in the skiff around Ediz Hook once the nephew has everything working right.
The sculling oar notch makes a handy rod rest. Of course he will tether the rod, can't have the hands on the oars and the rod at the same time!!
