Going to be up-island next weekend, and thinking about taking my grandpa out for a row. Never been out there before, so any info will be appreciated. Abe there boats for rent? Is it too early? Thanks.

yes, it will be way too early - nothing really happens there until mid-late August. Best chances this time of year will be south end of Quadra

ya, sort of figured so. But I know there are always some early fish in the river, so maybe.... Anyway, we will be boatless, so thought maybe it would be cheap to rent a row boat. No biggee though, we'll be out on the BS soon enough. Thanks guys.

Thanks for all this guys. I am from CR, and we fished around there a fair bit growing up. The family has a nice boat in PA, and I have a tiny one down in Vic, so a rental is not normally something we'd look for. Only reason for us to rent is to row in the pool. But we won't do that until late August. I have picked my grandpa up a spinning rod for the pier -because he has more time to fish than anyone else, and gets bored waiting for weekends. We'll just have to head down there and make sure he is properly set up. He lost his wife very suddenly a few years ago, which remains very hard for him. But fishing is something he has always loved, and I am glad to see him interested in heading down to the pier and fishing a little on his own again. I wish I had more time to get out on the big boat with him and the rest of my family, but the trips we do make together sure are fun. I figure, with the big pink run this year, he should get into something.

If you contact the folks at this link, the Tyee Club, they will give you the rules for the pool. If you stop by the clubhouse when you arrive, you can put your name on a list, and if any of the members are looking for a rowing mate for their own boat, they often will take guests out with them. They don't rent boats, all are privately owned, hope this helps.
