Two Sunken Boats in Oak Bay - Victoria.

We saw the one cruiser last week-an ugly sight and I'm surprised all the pearl clutchers in Oak Bay haven't written some stern letters about it.

It seams that every sheltered bay has its share of abandoned boats. No one takes responsibility for removing them. Oak Bay, The Geoge, Cowichan, Comox, Campbell River on the island -- more l'm sure. The lower mainland has got to be worse, Mud Bay in Surrey comes to mind.

Probably because the government does not want to foot the cost. We have a lot of abandoned boats in the Sacramento River delta. This state is spending about a million bucks a year clearing them. Most have no numbers, either before HIN numbers or removed. So can not go back on owners.

Just came back from the beach by the Maritime Museum-another sunken hulk on view with only the mast showing @ low tide.

Looks like the same the one VPD & Coast Guard boarded the other day guess even they couldn't save it.

what's underwater in Oak Bay is what is really frightening! sunken boats everywhere. A sunk 36 foot sailboat is completely full if tins of paint. and that is just the tip of it. The root of the cause is a poorly written Canada Shipping Act 2001. It needs to be amended so that ALL boats have a legal number and have a person attached to it.

beemer

For a second there I thought you were saying the root of the cause of all the sunken and abandoned boats was due to the Canada Shipping act not yet amending the act so that all those boat owners were attached to those sunken boats .......

Port Moody Inlet is starting to collect them as well. Most still float on their mooring bouys, some float a little less than others.

A rather unique one at Bowen Island !

I'm glad I don't live at sea...won't think of dandelions as being quite so nasty anymore! ;)

Make it expensive to dump a boat at landfill and hey surprise, people find a cheaper way. Morally indefensible but will keep happening until laws are adjusted.

Still baffled by Tapatalk
