How often do you check the tuna cord on your rigger

Me? Definitely not enough evidently.

Brought in a just-under legal chinook today, then after releasing, I bumped up the rigger to reset and watched the weight, dummy flasher and tuna cord make the long dive...

Guess I should have checked the cord clamp more often...

Ya. It’s the clamps I’ve learned the hard way too. Always pull the cord fully out now to the swivel to douse with fresh water. That clamp doesn’t get washed when it’s wrapped on the spool.

dont trust crimps and swivels main DR braid is joined loop to loop to 265 lb green gaion to a pnt cannon ball snap ..... release clip comes off the eye on the fin of the cannon ball

For the cost of 4-5 made-up tuna cord-bungy setups you could buy 400’ of 200 lb tuna cord. We did that about 10 years ago at PNT. It is kept on the boat out of the sun.

Just pull off 7’ tie a small loop with overhand knot at end to attach to braid. Then tie a slightly bigger loop at the other end if you want to use a clip, or tie a loop big enough to fit the ball thru if you want to just loop the ball straight on.
Easy to swap out if it start looking warn. You don’t really need swivels and no crimps required it’s just more stuff to break.
The knot at the top triggers the autostop, but the 250lb tuna cord (used in the store bought setup) makes the knot a bit too thick. The last benefit over the tuna cord-bungy that you can buy, is less blowback from the thinner line.

Yup, that's what I'm doing now. Saw a buddy's set up that way and always thought that I would change it... now I was forced to!
