Trophy 2359 diesel heater install

Hi all,

I am planning to install a diesel heater (vevor) in my trophy 2359. I plan to install it under the sink in the pilot house.

My main question is where to route the air intake and exhaust.

I am not familiar with these units and how much exhaust they pump out, and how smelly.

The easiest access point to run the intake and exhaust would be straight out the back of the pilot house (see image). However I don't know i this will create a nauseating exhaust smell when we are fishing on the back deck while its running?

Another option is to run it out the starboard side of the pilothouse.. but there is a significant amount of wiring running through there and the space is extremely tight.

Anyone have experience with this?

You will want that exhaust below the flare of the hull. Not out back on the deck. Intake doesn't matter can just leave it in the house near your heater. Exhaust gets real hot. You'll want to get proper exhaust and wrap it with heat wrap. Keep a good distance away from wiring with that exhaust.

I don’t think you’d want exhaust anywhere near there. Mine exits the pilot house out the side about 18” below the rub rail. It’s also loud from the exhaust.

thanks guys, what prevents water/waves from getting into the exhaust outlet considering i need to mount below the rub rail?

The best is to mount the heater higher than the thru hull exhaust fitting. If that's not possible then you'll want to put a bend in the exhaust. So water can't travel down onto the unit through the exhaust. If that makes sense

That’s a good point . previous owner installed my heater under a seat at the table and slightly lower than the thru hull. I haven’t had an issue but that makes sense .

Yeah alot of under 23ft sport boats can get real tight for mounting locations.

the exhaust pipe and clamps they supply are junk. Planar has much nicer stuff available, I also like their exhaust sleeve better than the regular fiberglass header wrap it’s cooler to the touch since it has a small air gap. They sell decent thru hull fittings as well which will get hot so cut back any hull liner you might have a few inches around the fitting.

I'm thinking of adding the same unit to my boat.Let us know how everything goes. What to buy and where, what worked best for you.Going with windshield defrost or not?

Will do.

We have a kid on the way .. around March 3 so I will be scrambling to try and get it done beforehand.

The issue with where I want to mount (under the sink) doesn't have enough space to lift the heater a few inches off the floor and still be able to fill diesel.

I am considering removing the tank and mounting beside it heater for easier access.

I put my fuel tank in the bilge and ran a line up to the helm where the heater is located.

Did you get an all in one unit?
Yea all in one. Kind of liked the idea of making it somewhat removable and can come with me during hunting season.

In hindsight it would probably be easier to go with the smaller unit and have a separate tank..

If it was just that easy. Good idea, however that exhaust is gonna be the part that will be the factor in that. Even though these units work and are cheap to buy, the exhaust portion will probly cost you more money in the end. The supplied exhaust components with these chinese heaters is a throw away. The proper clamps, exhaust hose, and thru hull fitting will be as much or more as the unit. Those exhausts get hot. Not sure how you could make it easily removable. I've had to add fireplace cement to joints on the one in the Coaster.
