Trolling Speed / Line Angle with Powerpro

Many here have posted that they switched their downrigger wire with braid by Powerpro, typically 200# test for a number of good reasons. It sounds like there is less blowback with the braid, and for summer fishing where depths are often shallow, I am concerned about the inability to correctly judge correct trolling speed by looking at the downrigger line angle. I know some like using their GPS to judge their trolling speed, but it is my understanding that current speed/direction inparts different action using the same GPS speed, so I have come to rely upon the downrigger line angle.

So... is there a better method of duplicating one's trolling speed than what I have suggested? Is there a certain pound test downrigger braid, that imparts the same line angle as wire so as it is effective for the 30-50' depths common to fish in the summer months?

thanks in advance for your advice. DAJ

Your going to get less drag using the power pro. My advice would be to look at the action of your bait beside the boat to judge your speed. I'm sure it will just take you a few outings to adjust.

My 2 bits , If ya think you are going to fast " Go Faster " !!! It's an oldie , but So True , the more water you cover , the more fish you encounter, too FAST is better than too SLOW !!! I am switching over to Braid this season myself , I am only changing one rigger for the first outting , compare the Steel to the Braid , this should help see the discrepencies first hand !! Cheers FD;)
