Trolling on the Gorge Waterway

I see people trolling the Gorge, are they targeting the coho heading for Colquitz creek or lost springs from Esquimalt harbour?

I always thought they were trolling for empties always thought that all the ditch was good for.

There's no water in the creeks so they'll be stacking up somewhere vulnerable to the jiggers. I've seen them jumping near the trestle for a week or so. A few dozen fish taken from a fairly health return is OK by me as long as it is done legally and ethically. A small opportunity for those less privileged to catch a salmon.

We walked Colquitz creek last weekend and did not see any fish. The water is very cloudy much like the blue green alge look of Elk and Beaver lakes.

Gorge coho, returning to colquitz and craigflower
113 to colquitz plus 83 to craigflower so far , 14 are fin clipped from fry release of 26,000 put in to prior lake 3 yrs ago
Normal return to both spots around 450 as high as 2000 up to 18 lb males in some yrs . 40 adults taken to goldstream hatchery for egg takes so we can return fry to lake in June to help the run in lean yrs
