Trolling Jigs......

Anyone here do this?

That is:- you take a jig like say a Spinnow or Mcdeep etc. and you put 6 feet of leader on it and then a roller swivel and /or Sampo and connect to main and then put it in the water and troll it.

If you don't have these on there you will get line twist like you wouldn't believe.

No flasher, no d-rigger clip, no anything.

I've done this for Coho at times and it's worked good.

I've also caught Springs and Lings doing this.

You?

Had a friend out on the boat last year and he threw a pink spinnow out and got alot of pinks and cohos on it as a center rod.

wasn't the buzzbomb originally intended to be a trolling casting lure?

The buzzbomb works as a dropping fluttering jig......IMO it's too streamlined for trolling......

Spinnows chug along with a nice erratic wobble action on them.........

I put them down and just watch the rod tip until it starts throbbing a bit......

I have caught fish trolling buzzbombs, and macdeep. But I don't think they outperform other more conventional methods

I bet you I could catch a damn fish trolling a dirty sock with a hook in it! - When fish are around and eating, they will bite anything! Doesn't mean it's going to be anything special compared to a standard go-to lure!

Zingers make an excellent kayak lure, especially if you are mostly camping and can only bring one rod and limited gear.Stop and jig for rockfish and lings and maybe a salmon, travel to the next spot and troll for cohoes.

Why?.......because sometimes it's an easy method to fish.....just tie it and your good to go. if you're tight into a reef and you lose it , that's better than losing a c/ball plus other tackle.

As I said it works for Coho quite well at times....as well as other species

Not saying it's superior to any other method...just an alternative sporadically.

Right...it's called a jig....but on some packages you can read that it's good for trolling as well.....they'll even tell you in the directions how to rig it for trolling.

As far as " if the fish are around they'll bite anything"......I don't think so.

Read dozens of posts here where the fish are around but the guy fishing gets skunked........repeatedly.....

A real fisherman always experiments and tries methods.......

A wannabee fisherman just sits with his feet up on the transom all day.....

(if trolling a jig you still have to pinch the barbs.....better to take the treble off and use a single for trolling)
