Tofino Update

Spent the last 3 days in Tofino. Onshore on Saturday at Tibbs and Monk. Just one hit which was quickly lost.

Went offshore (10 km off Lennard) for the first time on Sunday. Kind of like a needle in a haystack when you don't see any other boats to identify where to go. Hit one good fish which was promptly lost plus a gaggle of shakers (augers well for next year).

Went offshore again this morning. This time about 12 km off Lennard. The further we went out the flatter it became. Settled into a spot where we found another boat. Usual parade of shakers but this time we hit a mixed bag of bigger fish. Landed 2 nice hatchery springs and released two large wild coho. Lost at least 4 or 5 large fish. All in about 2.5 hours.

Bucktailing onshore will have to wait until next year.

Hey Jimbob,
We probably crossed paths out there on Sunday, I was in an 18ft blue silver aluminum hewes. We travelled out to three humps/hysen and further. We were fishing amongst four other boats. We limited out on springs/cohos and boated two halis. We found the trick was to drag bottom in 160 to 190 ft of water. Turds, ancho and hoochies (purple haze and pink/blue with mylar). Both halis also trolling just off the bottom. Quite a few whales out there and very smooth.

Saturday was a mistake to go ofshore - heavy fog. Never do that again.

Kelly - springs in low teens. Thx for the email J.Bob, come back at ya tomorrow.

We were at Tibbs and Russell Channel on Sat. afternoon, Sunday and Mon AM. We got into some nice COHO. No marked fish though. Most were caught on a white hootchie with black stripes and mylar. Fish were bigger Monday AM. GREEAAT Weather WOW !!!!!

Glad you guys were able to get on to a few...

Coho inshore are not thick in numbers, but really thick in size to make it worthwhile.

My guides have been into approx. 20 Chinook per trip offshore, but not many mature large fish. Coho still big and thick out there approx. 8 miles off Lennard Island.

You guys will save some gas and time if you check in at our shop for current info....always available!

Low pressure arriving today that can change things in a hurry, but still looks good long term.

Jay
