TLC for hoochies

Wondering if anyone else has certain hoochies/tackle that either isn't made anymore or is very hard to come by. How do you cate for your gear? Other than the obvious fresh water soak, is there a certain brand of soap you can recommend? sunlight detergent?

I have a few hoochies that I'd only like to retire because they've been torn up from catching too many fish. I've learned by mistakes a few times and destroyed some gear from rust stains, scent/oil stains, leaving in a bead/gummy puck that melted and by storing them improperly and having them fuse to other plastics or leach colour from some these else. I've never had problems with them drying out but I guess that's a way to ruin hoochies as well. Maybe some people have some things that e learned from and can share? There's lots of products that may or may not be safe, stuff like UV blast?

I wouldn't recommend buying gummy pucks from delta tackle brand as they will melt inside and ruin the body of the hoochie. Rust stains are an obvious one.... But I'd like to know if anyone has had success cleaning it off.

There will come a day when you can no longer buy your favourite tackle, so I thought this could be a helpful tread to keep gear in good condition.

Oh yes, there are a few go to's that I cherish. Sometimes I end up doing alot of touch ups on my favorite spoons to make them last longer. Old Coyote spoons vs chinese made Coyote spoons for example.

As for rust, soak the stains off in CLR. Works great for flashers.

Freshwater and a good dry off followed by wrapping in Kleenex and keeping it dry for spoons.

Some Ultra rare hoochies.....like one particular ultra rare discontinued glow pink Yamashita which will blow any lure away in certain circumstances...including bait...are stowed away in plastic ziplocks..wrapped in paper towel..

Same for killer plugs....wrapped and isolated when not in use.

So what is the code number of the super good, ultra rare, discontinued, glow pink Yamashita hoochie?.

HYDRATONE
most large gear stores , like Nikka , pacific net and twine have it.
with metal spoons we always used blue or black hooks , painted ones usually a Stainless.
We would take hooks off the metal spoons and put in a jar of fresh water with a cap full of hydrotone , it goes bright yellow.
it will keep a polished spoon shiney and ready to re-hook and use forever.
At night when we pulled our gear , we had a couple of gear buckets , all spoons went into the solution over night and no rust/corrossion or tarnishing.
That reminds me , I should get a small bottle next time i,m there.

for hootchie storage , we would pop the beads out , wash in light detergent fresh water , dry well for a couple days then put into a zip lock baggy according to colour.
then the zip locks go into a large garbage bag and the garbage bags go under the bunks and you go to the gear store and get a woody looking at something new and sexy or hear about a new hotty and buy more and more....I gotta have a locker sale someday :)
