This past tuna season.

Well it's that time of year again where I find myself reflecting on the year past in anticipation of the next trip around the sun and I just can't shake my thoughts on last years tuna season.

For me it was the worst season I ever had. I missed the early July wave of fish and then the NW winds came for August and pushed all the good water out of my comfort zone distance wise. I did not get out once.

How was the Tuna derby? I never found any reports on that.

Looking ahead To next year I hope to get my meat fish aearly so I can get out there and play. Maybe this will be the year to get one on the cast fly or start trying at least.

For starters let's just hope for a calmer August next year. I'm good to go for next year for I have all of last years gas money I didn't use saved up. Lol

tuna shoot out=only the long tour boats with 250-gals or better could make it out.

my tuna season sucked.

We didn't head out once either. My crew was back at school early September, and August was a blowout. I had my new spinning rods/reels and flat fall jigs that I was so excited to try out. Hopefully next year though.

Didn't get out this year :( the first time in 4 years.....between motor problems, wifey on a trip to Italy & horses ..... sure missed not being out there this year.. hoping 2017 will put the fish closer and the water will lay's down better ....:)

We (being the addicts that we are) traveled to find them. We ended up with 2 great trips this year out of Winter Harbor. One of the trips was the shortest tuna trip we have ever done. If needed to do it again in the coming years, we would in a heart beat :).

I truly hope the conditions are different for 2017 and we can get a shot at them out of Ukee. I still want to get a crew together and go do the live bait thing down South again next year......

Guy's like this inspire me to do the things I do......

He runs "the" original Edwing sport boat. I think its a 23' non podded version of my boat with canvas top. First sport boat Ed ever built. Total tank of a boat with a very salty captain. Puffin on the ifish forum has logged more sea days than most. Interesting cat for sure.

I think if a boat is trailerable, the crew is willing to pay their share, and the tuna are there..........it's a no brainer for a true tuna addict. Hell we talked about going to the Charlottes if necessary lol :D:eek:o_O.

Derby, do you go out in your Grady? You've got a single correct?[/QUOTE

My boat is rigged with now a new Suzuki 300.:).did have a yam 300..never again..:( so yes to the single screw..Ran it 2 years a go up to 68 miles off shore and was fairly comfortable with running it out there..Not to say I won't jump ship to a boat with 2 motors.. Put out riggers on the boat last year but yet to use them..hopefully next year .... pic is off the back end a couple seasons ago.... found I could do that range with burning 2/3 of my fuel and get back to blam town with 45 gallons to spare...
