I have been kicking the idea of a third downrigger on my double eagle and finally got to doing something about it. I wanted three for when I take extra fishers on board..I like them all to have there own riggers. Sometimes teaching them how to run their own gear or just letting the experienced ones go at it. With the fabrication of my friend chuck aka Fishin solo this is what we came up with

Now let's keep this positive boys. Thanks again chuck for your help.

Looks good Chris, the only improvement would have been to use round tubing for strength on the riser, but I would fish with it. Good job.

Looks good but be careful that is 6061 aluminum I almost would have put a few gussets where upper and lower plates are to make it stronger. You are going to have a lot of torsion on that weld since your going up so high ( bigger moment)... It may be OK... I am mount a third on mine soon as well this gave me an idea...

Good job Chris! I used to weld aluminum as well and I agree with SV's comments. One extra gussett may be good insurance. For the first few times out maybe attach a safety line on the rigger just in case.

x2. Love the location and the mount, but a 15lb cannon ball down at 180 with a good current could be cause for a little more insurance.

love it Chris i am thinking of running a third down rigger ove the back of my boat.very nice

Thanks for the input fella's. We are going to try it out this weekend and if needed I am going to make a support arm for the boom and it will rest on the starboard side. I also mounted some 90 degree brackets underneath of the mount too. I will let you guys know how it performs.

Thanks for the look and ideas CC. Have been thinking about doing something similar. In our case it may be best to have an elevated one something like yours welded directly onto the AL pod out the back.

I mounted a third downrigger on my 185 double eagle. Works great fishing shallow on the west coast and calm days fishing deep on the east coast. Mine I mounted in a little different location though.

Let's see a pic of your mount 1stLite. And anyone else's third rigger mounts since a few other members are thinking of doing it as well.

Maybe a small SS eyebolt thru somewhere solid and some Aircraft cable around the base of the scotty boom for extra insurance ... Worst case scenario if the post failed the scotty would still be onboard... Looks good tho.. Im jelous...
