The Top Ten Tackle Box Lures.... Not For Trolling

All the favourites mentioned in the first thread are for trolling, thought I'd start a new one for drift/jig fishing (for salmon) and see where it goes.

I'd like to get back into this style of fishing, but know nada about it. Probably have an old stingzilda and a few buzz bombs buried beneath the flashers but haven't done much "mooching" since we used to be able to buy live herring (years ago).

Oooh yeah..the good ol' days used to be great! ...Stingzildas used to be great..I have a few of those.....and Deadly Dicks were also good...if you can...get your hands on some of the Dymara Jigs...they are great jigs as well. Find yourself a bunch of bait, drop on down and jig away! Nothing? Find yourself another patch of bait and jig away! :)

Stingzildas for sure......
I don't do it much when do I have been successful with any of the pearl buzz bombs especially for ho's
I have one, lol, not sure I could think of 10

polar bear buzz bomb, or chrome, matching the bait size to the size of the BOMB

I have had some decent success with one called "L'il Nib". We use them at the Big Q in August.

I used to do a lot of jigging and was pretty successful. I used to use one called Perkins, it was my fav but I cannot find them anymore. Anyone know where I could get my hands on a few of those?

Didn't think anybody could list 10, but I did google searches on the ones mentioned and turned up blanks on all but the Dymara, which of course has gone out of business although there are a lot of Dymara spoons on ebay, but not a lot of jigs.
May have to visit a tackle store or two and see what is still on the market.
Emphasis has certainly shifted to trolling for catching salmon.

1st choice would be a jig my bud forum memember Rob H makes! Diff. sizes catch all springs, coho, lings & yes hali always have a few on board thanx Rob 2nd) Mac Deep no need for more!

Second Robs jigs, still have a few left! Could use some of the hali specials though.

Norwegian Perkins in green & silver used to be our standby even 25 + years ago, both sides of the coast.

The riptide striker, white dart and some homemade hand file buzz bombs were wet often too. Ill post a pic of some of these for fun.

Some here may remember the hand made Du Jigger from Danny Wong, I know Barry Thornton used to use them when we were out with him if he wasn`t chucking a tube fly into the kelp off Tribune Bay.`Geezus thats a long time ago.

Moss green Buzz Bomb was our favourite before we switched to trolling. My wife caught one of our biggest ever springs on one of these in Saanich Inlet, off Willis Point, in 1983. Those were the days...

My ten lures from the late 70's and 80's jigging the kelp bed at Pedder Bay, Bamfield, and other locations:
1. 60 gram green back Stingsilda
2. 40 " " " "
3. 60 " black " "
4. 40 " " " "
5. 40 gram Pirken
6. 60 gram Pirken
7. 3" extra heavy Buzz bomb (pearl white)
8. 4" wide buzz bomb (pearl white)
9. 4" wide buzz bomb (pink pearl) - deadly in September for lg. chinook and cohoes
10. 100 gram green back Stingsilda (winter springs).
We used to add a strip of silver reflective tape to the stings whick at times increased the catch rate considerably.

Todays lures:
1. 91 gram Pirken (nickle plated with "dayglow" chartreuse eyes) for salmon and halibut
2. 145 gram Pirken as above (salmon and halibut)
3. 60 gram anchovy plated as above
4. 180 gram herring lure plated as above - mostly used for halibut, lings etc. but does catch salmon when they are around.
5. 300 gram Pirken (plated) - for halibut
6. Assorted darts to match needlefish size, white belly/body with usually anchovy green back (black spray over yellow/chartreuse), sometimes black back.

Still my favorite way to fish when the conditions are right. We catch lots of halibut on the jigs with light spinning rods, 30 lb. braid, 30 or 40 lb. mono leaders.

Just like J & I said there's a fisherman who Knows his jiggs somethings never go out of style! Thanxs Robb

Perhaps somebody has some image of these jigs to post? Sounds like something to try if you come accross a huge ball of bait.

Mac Deep lures are great for bottomfish, and although I haven't tried it (yet) myself, I hear they work really well for Salmon as well. I also have some river2sea sea rock jigs that I'm rigging up with assist hooks that I can't wait to try!
