The Passing of Jan Eilertsen

It is with regret I must inform you that our fishing community has recently lost a long time angling friend.

Jan Eilertsen, an avid fisherman who lived in Metchosin and was a strong supporter of salmonid enhancement, passed away unexpectedly. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy Anglers Association from 1968 and became a life member in 1978. He served on the organization's executive too.

Most will remember Jan Eilertsen and his wife Judy as the owners and operators of the Cook Shack at Rex and Bud's Port Renfrew Marina. For many years they served good food to hungry fishermen and the Cook Shack became a popular meeting spot.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Wednesday August 30th between 2:00 p.m. and 5:0 p.m. at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel, 829 McCallum Road in Langford (behind Costco). The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations be directed to Port Renfrew Salmonid Enhancement.

On behalf of Ret'd CPO Thomas Cole, RCNAA President and Christopher Bos, SVIAC President, the Victoria SFAB and the entire south island angling community, we express our sincere sympathy to Judy and family.
