Ted Peck...fishing in Horseshoe Bay. Mooching live herring. Video!

Cool video. A little prior to my memory (I was born in 1963 😁) but I do remember the Sun Derby during the ‘70s. It was a big deal with thousands of participants and some serious prizes. Top prize was usually a boat and motor.

The newspaper ad for the Sun derby was a whole back page of the daily. (advantage of being title sponsor I suppose) I asked my dad for years if we could go in it, never happened living on the island. A friend won the last derby they had, the prize was a new Campion boat and trailer.

Ted Mack, Ted Peck, tv was confusing back then.

Really cool video. No Ike Jime, or coolers full of ice, or bleed buckets. Doesn’t matter though when you’re rippin’ packs of unfiltered Sportsmans, won’t be able to taste f-all anyway.

Their dogfish to salmon ratio on live bait also makes me happy to continue to use lures and down riggers. Although mooching with love bait would be a cool experience on that light tackle.

Sportsman's cigarettes " too good to filter" 🤣

Memories ! I have fond memories of fishing with Ted in the 70s. He had his small cabin cruiser the Kenora Kutie in Eagle Harbour around the corner from Horseshoe Bay.. Often the boat didnt go more than a 1/4 mile out of the marina before it was time to put a liveli on light leader and drop it down. Ted got a chuckle about the binos watching him , counting the number of pulls he dropped the herring down to. A lot of fishermen knew Ted and his boat, and watched what he did closely. One time he said "watch this Bryan " He started stripping line off his reel but after he reached his depth, he continued to false strip line So he was at 20 pulls but it appeared that he had stripped off 30+ pulls of line ! Once the rods were in the holders, he would miraculously appear out of the cabin with drinks . I wish I had written down some of the "Tale Tales " That flowed from him and a couple of fishing buddies also onboard.
