hey guys gonna take the course I am curious I have noticed there are different companies offering it. Is there 1 better then the other or all basically the same. Forgot to add in the lower mainland area thanks.

Look at you.....growing up right before my/our eyes. :p :p :p

To be honest, I'd find what's convenient. LandsEnd on Granville Island is who I did my VHF with and they seemed to do a good job. I can now operate my cell phone with the utmost efficiency. ;)

That's prob where I'm heading they offer 3 courses for guiding in 6 days and seem to be the cheapest. Just need to find who offers the first aid cert ?

Always done my marine first aid stuff through St. John's Ambulance. Not sure what's required for SVOP, but it must be similar to what commercial marine officers are required to have?
It's not always obvious when internet searching which of their courses count for "marine first aid", but if you call them and tell them what your certificate is required to say, they'll lump you into the appropriate course. I've done it at a few different locations around the mainland as they expire, and the timing of various courses over the years worked out at different spots. Sometimes I was the only one in the class who's certificate said "marine" on it as requested.

I booked the course today with Lands End in Granville island seemed to be closest around I could find ... however the first aid portion wasn't clear with st johns so I'm going with red cross since it specifically says Marine first aid on the certificate ....

the first aid is pretty lame really... all the same except ad "call the coast guard" for RTC

First Aid is the most important course you take. The odds are you will avoid an accident as an operator but if you guide you will inevitably be in the company of many elderly folk. It will only be a matter of time before you have a medical emergency on your vessel. I really hope it happens to me and my customer right after having refreshed my skills with having just completed my refresher. When you don't use something everyday you forget and your confidence suffers.
