Surge brake question.

How far should the actuator/hitch move before brakes start being applied? No mention of this when I looked up bleeding them.

Without being very scientific about this answer I would say not very far.
The reason I say this is because each year when I clean and repack my bearings on my trailer which has surge brakes I test my brakes by using a long 2x4 as a lever and pry on the front of the hitch like you would be doing a brake application in the car. As my son is doing this I am spinning a wheel and you can feel the brakes coming on.

Hey Clint, I just put all new brakes on mine and used the break away actuator to bleed ,it only moved about 3" on the end of a 2' bar
