Stats and revenue created by sportfishng

And this is just for lic sales imagine the airline, hotels, grocery stores,restaurants,marinas, gas stations, and lastly the charter quide YEP we are the ones making all the $$$$!!!!!! (ahhh no) sportfishing and guiding bring more money in than and commie anyday..... the numbers are there to see....

Had a huge debate with a commercial halibut guy 2 days a go where he went on ranting im a commercial fisherman. I defended myself and said how many hooks to you put out??? i fish 3 rods.... and cant sell my fish like you do so how am i commercial fishing ?????his reply cause I take people out for money....WOW are you that dumb..... what about whale watching, and float plane and eco tour operators they take people for money...... he got mad and was about to lose it.
I do however believe we need a better recording system thats for sure but good luck on that one...

We've got the same issue down here. Huge economic impact from the sporties vs. commies and I think we're tracking 12/88 allocation or some rediculous figure like that. Doesn't make sense but it's all politics. A few years ago I think the numbers reported in Washington state alone were $1.4B spend from sporties, $250M from commies...
 
What they do not get is we are providing a boat and a fishing rod. That's it. They,(Sportie) could use a boat and a fishing rod.

Then maybe the Ferrries should buy quota when they bring people to the island to fish. Maybe the airlines should as well when they bring someone. Iceco should too, because they make money selling ice to sporties.

It's kind of like arguing evolution to a preacher, it will get you no where.

and this is just revenue collected from fishing licences. The total contribution of sportfishing on the local and provincial economy is 5-8 times the size of that of the commercial sector (depending on how you want to add it up). Yet despite this, the policticians and DFO mandarins continue to favour the commercial sector to the detriment of the recreational even though it makes no economic sense. Why does this happen, large corporations with deep pockets hire lobbyists to promote their cause while greasing the palms of policticians to fund their election campaigns me thinks!

That's pretty much how things are working in this company, oh I mean country. Companies control so much of our resources in this country. grosses me out to think about it too much. Wtf!
 
I contributed around $400 to the economy for my trip over to pedder bay yesterday/today. Guess how many pounds of the TAC I used. ZERO. (No halibut for me this time)


So there's another way sport fishing is better than commercial fishing. We spend money even when we don't catch fish.

No doubt. We are idiots when it comes to boats and tackle lol. My name is John and I'm a boat and tackle junkie!

I get into this once and a while with some commercial guys that I do work for and it is mind boggling how they think we don't contribute much to the economy. I think the DFO folks and them have been hanging around each other too long lol.

Gee Wolf with those kind of stats..I'm starting a new guide service..hmmm i think i'll call it Slipper Skipper Charter service - that way i can make money just by sitting on my sqwat!!

Not sure I believe their stats as I imported them into excel and found they were short by over half a million dollars.
This years total should be 5.1 million not 4.4 million ... Makes you wonder that they can't add such a simple set of numbers I wonder if they can add something like the amount of halibut the recreational harvest...

Oh and I have had spreadsheets from DFO that were full of errors that I was to follow.
They may know commercial fishing but they sure don't know math.

I calculated the cost per pound of fish caught at the Derby last weekend at $64/lb and we caught 16 springs!

Tell me that's not better for the economy than buying them at Safeway.
