SST Terminal Tackle

Going through the tack box, and as usual after a season on the chuck, all the swivels, snaps..ect have corroded, except some commercial riggings I picked up from PNT.

Aside from Sampo ($2 a swivel at times), are there any other options out there for quality stainless steel swivels and snaps

Curious to know what some of the guides are using as I assume reliable tackle is a big thing for you guys... thanks for the thoughts.

Not too many that I have found-if you want quality gear you're going to pay for it especially something as complex to make as a SS BB swivel.

I've had decent use from the Cabela's house line over the years but I do soak them in Corrosion X @ the end of the season.

http://www.leadertec.com/ isn't cheap but has excellent service.

Hey Dog...just wondering if any other companies are using higher grade stainless steels with their tackle. The detail involved in one of those smalls Sampo's is worth the money no doubt. I can't believe SST costs when I order bar stock at the shop.

I just find that most common manufacturers list it as stainless, without any detailed grade description (300, 400 series ect.)

Maybe someone knows of other manufactures that use quality stainless, and only that in their terminals.

On the topic of SST, most hooks I used in the season are junk, except the commercial gear. Even hooks still in the original package, just the salt in the air takes its toll. I read another thread where someone was using Mustad Siwash hooks, and changed to using Matzuo hooks because they were lighter (for hoochy applications), but the Matzuo rusted after one use in the chuck, but the Mustad held up longer

I find some hooks are coated differently, heat treated differently...are they any brands that y'all swear by or is it just find the right size and tie them up...i know this can't be the case cuz there are some picky fisherman out there, me included!

I guess the sky is the limit with everything. There is a mfg of hooks (to lazy to dig them up) but they build their hooks in conjunction with a company that manufactures medical needles, needless to say it is supposidly the worlds sharpest hook, and hell it better be, because the hooks are about $10 each, on my last google search...

Maybe i should just rig up a freshwater wash station on the boat...

Dump all your goodies into a small strainer basket and then into a deep dish full of CLR for two or three days...rinse in cold water and then spread out to dry. CLR works wonders on hoochy's too.

DHA.
