So You're Tied Up At The Marina.......

and your boat is staying there for the season.

Just wondering what you people do for the following:-

(a) Rinsing tackle/lures/rods etc etc etc .

(b) Flushing engines

(c) Rinsing downriggers (if you do that)

Are you all lucky enough to have freshwater access in the immediate vicinity?......or do you pack some stuff home with you?

I'm absolutely anal about rinsing stuff myself after every trip......but then again I'm trailering the boat home.....

Have considered getting a different boat and paying seasonal tie-up...

Pros? Cons?

We always flush the motor but we've never rinsed drs or lures

Some Marinas have fresh water and 110 power available for use right on the dock in front of your boat. You can spray the salt off your boat windows, fill your fresh water tank, power your 110 battery charger etc.

I would go crazy not being able to wash EVERYTHING ! My equipment is well looked after and in most cases looks like new, even though it gets rode hard and put away wet. I would have to have full fresh water wash available or I wouldn't do it ....... The salt eats everything eventually.

At Neah Bay we have shore power and fresh water available. When we get back to the dock each day, everything that we used gets a plentiful fresh water rinse. The rods and reels are rinsed off in the rod holders, the tackle goes into a bucket with a little soapy fresh water, the downriggers get rinsed and tipped up, the outside of the boat gets a good rinsing etc. Then the tackle is taken out of the soapy water, rinsed again and dried off on a towel.

On a hot day, it dries off pretty quickly. I then stow it inside my locked cabin. I have a heater in the cabin that I leave on to keep things dry. Also, my slip is fairly far down the dock and there is more expensive stuff out on other boats between me and shore.

Seafever: My boat is moored year-round but my marina has no nearby freshwater access except at the fuel dock. I carry a couple jugs of freshwater on board for washing gear after each use (hung to dry after rinsing). My boat is pulled every 3 or 4 weeks for cleaning the bottom and other maintenance. I will flush both motors when I bring the boat home, rinse the riggers, and maybe rinse the rods and reels while the boat is home.

Wash every thing , Fog the internals and externals of motors , fog any equip that's left open to the elements . Fluid film all exterior connectors , add fuel stabalizer . Outboard fog is also great stuff to coat any exterior parts you don't want getting eaten by salt .And Add Fluid film/Lithium grease to all upholstery Zippers.
