Years ago, the manager of the Big Qualicum facility, Dick Harvey, filmed a number of garters feeding daily on fry in the spawning channels. Nature photography was his hobby and he was very good at it. The NFB has used his footage many times. he got some great footage until the day he went down to film and was met by a new summer student, who proudly showed him the BIG garter snakes he had just killed because they were "eating all the fry !" To Dick's credit, he didnt fire him or drown him !!!!
