Skinny G vs Needle G ?

Have used the Skinny G with some success. Am aware that the needle G are a heavier spoon and was wondering if there is a noticeable difference in action and whether the needle G have produced. Also any advice on a replacement hook as the factory issues are starting to rust badly and whether a swivel ahead of the hook might be an upgrade. Thanks

Just a word of caution on placing a swivel ahead of a hook on a smaller profile spoon. In my experience once the swivel is added you need to troll waaaay faster than the same spoon without the added swivel. That was the case for coho killers anyways.

Thanks Hambone,I was concerned that adding a swivel might change the action of the spoon, obviously too heavy a hook will cause the same problem. Will be hitting PNT in Steveston tomorrow and see what they might have in a decent stainless replacement.

The skinny G worked well for me this summer when there were small herring that matched the size perfectly. Never tried the needle G. I replaced the hook with a Mustad 9510xxxs in 4/0 and caught lots. I have too many painted spoons to replace rusty black nickle hooks every year, so I prefer a longer lasting, well-sharpened stainless hook. These would work too: Mustad 95170 pricy, Eagleclaw 211S cheaper, easier to bend the eye and sharpen, but will rust some. No swivel.

x2 on the ss mustads on all my spoons , different sizes to match...also hate the rust issues..
they get pretty bent up at times , no biggy , keep em sticky sharp , works for me
tried a few scrawny g's out west this season , action just isnt there... i tried all of them !!!
im sure they catch here and there ,but , when things were tuff , they were retired quickly
i'll stick with my Silver Hordes, tomics , and older coyotes anyday ,
out fished them 10-1 , purple haze , white lightning, watermelon, party girl , were solid all summer
few with no paint left on em ,
keep it simple , stick with what works :)
the heavily promoted team Gibbs, thanks you greatly for your support !!! $$$$$$

note that if you bought a skinny G spoon when it was first introduced, it was thinner material and could be trolled slower and produce more action (but it bent easily like the coho killer). The newer ones are heavier and need to be trolled a bit faster.
