Sidney Salmon Down Rigger Trolling

Hello: Have been a member since 2013 but this will be my first post. Have kept my previous Albin TE in Anacortes, Wa since 2010. Planning to move my replacement Sabre over to Sidney this year when my slip lease expires.
My question has to do with Trolling in an around Sidney for salmon. In the Straits near Anacortes the only salmon caught or on the bottom usually when they are getting ready to run up the rivers. One loses a lot of expensive weights fishing that way. Would like to get back to fishing other than off the bottom and wondering at what depth most salmon are caught around or near Sidney.
Usually fish with Cannon down riggers standard electric. Have been considering the Cannon Digital trolling which will adjust for the bottom contour. They are expensive. So will I need to fish on the bottom there when relocated or will the salmon be up off the bottom?
Really would appreciate any good advise. I know most of you will be using the Scotty down riggers, but I have used Cannon so long changing everything over would be another big expenditure.
Look forward to your help and meeting so local fisherman.

I don't know too much about sidney, but off the Oak Bluffs, on Pender Island(a 30 minute run) you usually only have to fish 40-90 for all fish except spring, and 60-140 for spring, keep in mind that is in about 240 feet of water.

TimFisher: Thank you for the prompt reply. Have never fished Pender but do a lot of boat camping nearby at Succia and Stewart so it will be an easy run over to try.
Where off the island are the Oak Bluffs? Looks like you are in the So. Gulf islands. How far are you from the fishing grounds? I won't have a fishing partner after the move over and will be looking for a local to fish with me and show me the local ropes. Are you a 6 pack fisher or just a local sports fishermen? The depth you describe is great for elec. downrigger fishing. The So. Gulf Islands are great cruising and boat camping. What are you fishing out of there?

I fish out of thieves bay, and work at Poet's Cove, the Oak bluffs are conveniently located on my way to work :)

I'd be happy to show you the ropes, give me a bit of a heads up and PM me.

The oak bluffs are directly across from morsby island, a short cruise from sidney.
