Shortening in halibut anchor line

Was wondering if anyone has a tried and true method of shortening in or lengthening their halibut rode. For example if you are anchoring shallow and want to lessen your swing and not pay out all your line. I've thought of cutting my line at 350 feet splicing in a quick link and doing the same with the remaining 150 feet. My concern is that this could hangup on the ring when retrieving. Anyone using two sections of line for their rode?

Some guys splice large loops in their line and just do a loop to loop connection when they want the long line. I have a loop to loop connection and sometimes it'll hang up temporarily on my ring, I just pin the throttle to get over it, or sometimes I'll hook a small fender onto my hali float to add to and speed up the lift and it runs faster over the loop connection. It's always good to have options.

I use a 4" ss carabiner-take a bight of line thru the carabiner at what ever length you want -that snaps onto a ss ring that is on a your bow to stern line.

use the quick link. I have 600 feet total in 400 and 200 lengths. The rope ends have a metal insert (for lack of remembering their name) to protect the rope on the inner side of the loop against chaffing. The ring is too big to hang up on the joints...it already big enough to allow your anchor chain to pass through so it will slide right up to the anchor. My ring is a 5 inches across from outer side to outerr side.

I think the word your looking for is thimbles to protect the rope. I'd like to be able to just pinch off my rope somehow at whatever length I want. I guess you could tie a quick loop knot in your line but that will damage the rope over time.
