Shimano Lucanus Jigs?

I have one that I found while spearfishing, never used it. It doesn't look bad, I think it could be a good squid/prawn imitation. I don't think it would catch the bottom any more than, let's say a Norwegian jig and for comparable prices. The only thing is the skirt/hook replacement. Might just have to give it a go.

A group of guests i fished with from texas gulf coast brought up a handful of these in the 200g size this season. They caught the usual suspects in ling, hali, yelloweye ect but they did no better than the regular curlytail/leadhead we fished on the opposite side and got hung up more often, also had the skirts ripped off quite quick when we got into the toothy ones. one upside was the fast sink rate , but overall i would say save your money, kinda gimmicky.

Awesome...

So I've never shied away from interesting lures and today my down riggers were giving me grief while fishing the Green Can in Campbell River so I stopped, put a blue Lucanous Jig on and dropped it 310' (it's the 5oz version). Two bounces off the bottom and I hit a 8lb Pacific Cod. On my next drop through a school of bait I got bite by a 25lb Chinook. So my fishing partner put on my green one and within 15 minutes landed another 25lb Chinook. THEN, I got bit by something huge. It was the weirdest fight I've ever had with a fish. It mostly just slowly meandered away with the odd short run. I have a 5000 series Stella reel with 30lb Power Pro and it took me down to my last 5' before I had to tighten the drag all the way down. I unfortunately lost the lure but kept my line thank god. Would that have been a halibut? I've never caught one but I literally couldn't budge it.

So anyway getting back to the first topic, I'm sold on these guys. Yea a bit pricey but they really look quite unreal in the water...I'll be ordering me some more.
