As fish4all said most fish are caught of langara and the 800 line taking what comes up, 18-22 lbs average ( my last recollection) targeting big ones .....NO ......avoiding bycatch......yes

Last time we went on a charter we caught the fish, not the guide, my licence gives me that right! My fish!! Heck I went to a lodge at double bay one time and didn't even have a guide. If your suggesting that I should have to pay for quota to do this you need help!

why should they? the proposal is to try and lengthen the season for the rec sector. every commercial is off the water once they hit their individual allocation. some as early as april 1.

For the record I am against the slot limit for halibut. This is because I think there are other options, mortality and safety of the fishermen trying to measure or release a hali.
Barbed, barbless, circle... a 60lb hali thrashing around with sharp hooks is just plain dangerous.

Is this recommendation to force us to buy quota? (a program that basically gives you the right to poach any size, any place, any time as long as you pay the piper)

Is this recommendation influenced by the fact that lodges catch the majority of their hali within this limit so it is a non issue for them and is in the best interest of their business?

Thats exactly what it's about and how they came up with the 60lb max. It's all about money unfortunately.

Hmmm march 15th - December 31st is actually something I support and just might be worth giving up a fish over 60lbs for an extra 3 months of opportunity. I didn't think we would get past September.

The first 2 and last 3 months don't help northern lodges at all, there has to be give and take. It is not like nobody thought about things.

OK.... BS Tailspin. The most halibut any one vessel can catch is capped at 59,000 lbs or 1% of the commercial TAC. After that they are off the water on halibut trips. As for leasing I pay the same price if not a little more than what i have seen advertised on-line.
