All you could possibly need! lol Love the tracking.

Viking Enterprise: FAS – H&GT

Our new factory trawler, Viking Enterprise, lands FAS (frozen at sea) fish processed on board for supreme freshness and quality. It uses state of the art equipment to process, size grade, plate freeze, and pack H&GT (headed & gutted, tail-off) fish in woven poly bags before stowing in low temperature storage.

Port Fish Plant: Surimi, H&GT, Fillets, and Mince

Our plant is located at the head of the Alberni Inlet on Vancouver Island adjacent to richly sustained fishing grounds. We are EU certified under the scrutiny of the Canadian Fish Inspection Agency and maintain full QMPR (HAACP) quality standards. Fish are landed at the plant within hours of catching and processed rapidly into surimi, H&GT, IQF fillets, or mince depending on current market demand.

Catches that we supply are:

Hake (Pacific Whiting)
Arrowtooth Flounder
Pacific Ocean Perch
Rougheye Rockfish
Pollock

Hear hear 'Gov' Unfortunately the bycatch and death and destruction these ships reek far out weighs the need for putting fish in the grocery store.

So the other 2 draggers out there were mid water troll hake draggers. I was told that the adult chinook and coho are too fast to get caught and are not an issue but juveniles are caught as bycatch. There are observers on board and reports submitted to be sure that the bicatch is within set boundries.
Also was told that they had received a few inquires including a report from near Otter Point of a abundance of small hake were floating behind one of these boats.
Apparently the bicatch reports will be checked and the subject will be discussed.

I learned a bit about the fishery and stated my opinion so it was worth the visit to DFO for me.

I think it is important that we ask questions and let our concerns be known.

Tips

Good on you Tips! Keep you eyes open guys and DO ask questions. No question can ever be as dumb as some of DFO's answers!
