Seal up the Colquitz?

Couldn't believe it. Out for a walk yesterday and we saw a fuggin' seal up past the second foot bridge in the park. I imagine he was coming back down from the trap counting fence behind Tillicum Mall. First time I've seen a seal in nearly 30 yrs living on the Colquitz.

Nerve of that prick doing fish that are ready to spawn!

Time for a seal cull.

I was thinkin' a fence of some sort that would only let fish through, maybe right under the Admirals bridge? Oh, wait a minute, what about the canoe'ers & kayak'ers, they'd be forced to portage up over the road. The seals would too. Hey wait a minute, then we could run the picks over! (the seals I mean).

I've seen Rock sausages on the Colquitz as far up as just past Panama Flats...you think maybe they'd be happy enough poaching fish from the Brochie Boyz.. :) ss

Rock sausages: origins in the Orca community...

"Hey Benji, whata'ya say we slide on over to the Race fer' a coupla' Rock Sausages?"

Seals at Colquitz fence

The individuals who check the Colquitz fish counting fence have seen seals (a seal?) below the fence for several years now.
Of the first 8 coho checked through this month, 4 had seal marks on them. I suspect the seals take quite a few coho while
they are holding in Portage Inlet and trying to make their way up the creek. At last count 28 coho had been checked through
with about half of them being jacks. Craigflower Creek has had only one coho through so far. Water levels are still somewhat
low however.
