Was at the Van Aquarium today with my 8 year old daughter. She thought this rescue poster was rather cute - I couldn't tell her what I was thinking ( especially not out loud in front of all the other parents and kids "awwwing" .... lol)

( I won't explain "cull " to my daughter just yet, maybe in a few years) ....

Greg i think i see your rescued seal haha.

In all seriousness though most of those rescued seals are stolen seals. I remember a seal left her newborn pup on a boat lift beside my boat a few summers ago. There was a crowd of a few people saying they needed to rescue it since the mother had left it and they were trying to feed it herring. I explained they leave their pups to go feed and that a seal pup that age would be likely nursing on milk and not herring. Well when i came back from fishing the mom was looking for her baby which was gone and the misinformed people had taken it away.

Good post Kelly.

I like baby seals but I can't eat a whole one!

We were at the aquarium on Christmas Eve...is that the poor seal with the hootchie in it's mouth and a flasher and a bunch of line wrapped around its neck rescued from the Ucluelet area?...poor thing...they really should ban sports fishing to prevent such atrocities

I had three follow me for a couple of hours last week. They used to put the grab on once the fish was up off the bottom, running on the surface. These guys were actually sounding down to 70 meters, following the flasher in the mud, then plucking the fish off my spoon as soon as I got a take-down

I finally just went back to the ramp--it was cruelty to animals (the fish) and I couldn't take it any more.

For some reason, the word "hollow-points" kept coming to mind.

Not sure what the significance was.

SAVE THE POLAR BEARS!

I think that seal that had the flasher hootchie hooked in it was from a commercial boat that's why it had the big barbed hook? Im not a hardcore tree hugger but I like how they saved that seal from suffering.

Save the Polar bears....don't leave hooks in your seals!

Rescuing seal pups is about as productive as saving baby grey squirrels, raccoon kits and feral cats. They all need the 10 cent solution (.22).

Awesome pics Lipripper and Sharphooks.
