Scuba Diver Dead In Alberni

I am a diver and it is always a wake up call to hear about any accident like this. So sad to hear. The diver must have been on a "work" dive to be down in that area....plus it sounds like he was diving alone. Not likely a "pleasure" dive so likely removing net from a prop or fixing something I guess.

Condolences to the family... Sad to hear

When I was a diver in Port I used to get calls from guys tied up at the harbor.....for such things as recovering false teeth that they'd upchucked over the side after tying one on the night before.....or they'd lost a cherished metal cigarette lighter (old memorial metal Zippo's) etc.etc. Sometimes it would be cutting net or rope off props or the like.

You have absolutely no idea how much junk and crap sits at the bottom of the harbor....in water as little as 6ft.deep.

Easy to cut yourself or get snagged on something.....real easy.

Very sad that this had to happen......as TrophyWife said:- Condolences to family and friends.....

Very tragic indeed and my thoughts are with the family. Do commercial or FN nets need to be labelled like we sporties do with crab traps? If there is so much crap down there, shouldn't the owners be responsible for removing them if they lose a net? I know this is not realistic for crab traps, they get lost all the time, but were talking about operations and businesses here. Also, was there any netting going on in the area at the time of the accident? Was there a diver down sign out? Lots of questions, probably will have to wait to gather more information before jumping to conclusions regarding possible causes.
