Army & Navy in Vancouver and New West have Scotty Powergrips On Sale for $8.99 starting today-Sale runs until June 6th.

Given the outrageous prices some store charge for these-I've seen them for $15 [V] -it's time to grab a few.

Hey Dogbreath ...we'll have to buy a few for Jeff ;)

but on the other hand the cheaper elastic bands worked fine off the downrigger wire too!

I spent $1.50 @ Staples and bought Jeff a lifetime supply of backups! [:o)]

Actually just got back from buying a few Powergrips @ A&N even their regular price is just $9.99.

Dogbreath's idea .....use an elastic band wrapped around your mono ( where you would normally pinch on your scotty release clip) then attach the other end of the elastic to the downrigger cable and viola ! ....you have a very cheap release clip. This is only necessary however if you should happen to find yourself run out of scotty powergrips and you are 21 miles offshore (this shouldn't ever happen, though, should it ?......Jeff ? ;) lol

someone recently reported on here that he threads a wine cork on the line between snap grip to keep them afloat, anyone tried this technique?

Yes,
I have been there, excellent selection across all aspects of the out-of-doors. they were still stocking up when I went was there.
Kinda reminded me of Cabelos without all the mounts.

Good store...prices were comparable as much as I could tell.

I replace to pads once a season, if they survive long enough. Also, if they're losing grip you can insert a short piece of that reinforced plstic hose to spread the handles out.

Make your own: Buy the clip for $5-$6, line clips are $1.50 ea and line can be just about anything from old d/r line to fly line backing. All you gotta know is how to tie a bowline.

buddy of mine set up an account at Trotac, pay as you go, got cheaper prices, maybe get some guys together and try this, more you buy the cheaper:):) JDR

Making your own is the way to go. I buy the clips and just use some 150lb line that I have laying around and crimps. Works great and you can make them any legnth you want.

Cammer, my dad has come up with a great idea, tappered cedar floats, with the release clip line threaded through them, haven't lost one since. With green horns on your boat and stoppers that move, at 10 bucks a shot or more we lost a few over the years ... none since Pop's invention !
