Scotty issue...

Hi Guys,
I was fishing on a buddy's boat and we were having issues with the rigger - it is the standard electric (non pro). The cable on the retrieve was cutting into the plastic to the left of where the wire passes through on its way to the boom with enough friction to cut little channels in the plastic.

Has anyone had this issue? It almost looked like it was spooling backwards, but the rigger is only a year old and thats the way it came from the factory. I am actually surprised Scotty wouldn't buck up for some guide rollers for wire to feed through on its way to the boom.

On the other side of the boat he has a pro, and again no guide roller of any sort.

Has any experienced this? I hope I am explaining it well enough....

I think it is spooling backwards, reverse the wire connections and see if that helps
 
thinking more about this and it is running backwards.
it has spooled all the way out and now wound the line to the wrong side of the spool,
line needs to enter on the right side of spool if you are standing behind it,
and I'll bet it is entering on left side and cutting into autostop switch.
the polarity is reversed on the wiring but either power connections or someone has reversed the plug,
easy to pull apart and change,
 
That does make sense to me too. The polarity can be switched at the plug by switching the wires, correct?

The thing is I am not sure if all of the line was ever let out and it seems like that would have to happen to get it to spool the wrong way. Would they even work out of the box if the wiring was backwards? Trying to wrap my head around this..

Also, the brake slips like cray so I wonder if that is a related issue?

switch the wires around and see how it is, if you look closely at the plug and the socket end too you will see a #1 and #2 beside the terminals, #1 goes to the negative (-) and #2 goes to the positive (+) , hopefully no one has done this backwards before and switched the rigger end around to compensate, easy to check as well
you will have to pay out all the line and respool, easy to do just hang onto the line when it gets to the end incase their knot comes un-done
the brake is undoubtably worn down from the reverse spooling, try and give the top nut a half turn, or hook a scale to it and tighten it
down to where it will pay out at around 45-60lbs as your pulling the wire out attached to the scale....make sense?

Dave will fix everything for you.
About 16 riggers in his shop the last time I was there.
Always amazed at his genious.
 
If it is running backwards there would be no brake at all and the brake would go on when it was running. I don't think it would work at all or function properly.
