Picked up three at Army and Navy while over on the mainland. Regular price was 12 $. Got them for 4 $ each. Does any one use them? I understand they work better then the powergrip when using braided line. Don't seem as user friendly, but l will try them, if nothing else l have new snaps.

I use to use those back in the 80's they worked but I always found myself screwing with the tension, always seemed to be too soft or too tight
never a sweet spot, then I switched to the flappers which worked much better and then now the powergrips which are pretty dummy proof

x3. They may be old stock and are 3rd generation old release technology. The current generation with the replaceable yellow pads are far superior and much faster to use and get the gear down quickly when there is a short bite on. I guess the jury is out on if you would have less slide outs with them with braid but my own view is it would not be worth the screw around time. I use braid with the yellow tips without problems, except some extreme situations where you get oil, fat or particularly water resistant sun screen lotion transferred from you hands to the fishing line and release clip pads. That is true with mono as well as braid. With the smaller diameter of the braid, I do tend to set it a little deeper and use the hard release setting.

Many of using braid for main line have a 25-30 ft topshot of mono to add a little forgiveness when the fish is close to the boat. So you're clipping on to mono rather than braid, two birds with one stone.
