Hi, I have Scotty DW with 30" booms and want to replace with longer ones, has anyone purchased ss tube and done extension upgrade themselves or should just buy from Scotty?. Thanks

Scotty replace booms, you need to know if the diameter is 1" or 1-1/4"
I don't think you can put the larger diameter boom on the old style riggers ?
DaveS did his from tube he bought from metal supermarket.

Thanks for the reply, I thought I had read before of someone doing that, these booms are 1-1/4" dia, have to find out if Scotty uses grade 304 or 316 ss tube.

If you go home made and long, you may wish to add a Scotty boom mount line guide to make sure the line dose not start to pile at the top of the drum. I was warned of this wen I was looking for 60 inch booms. With the up angle th longer you go the higher the pulley sits.

Yes, I have done that a few years ago. For the 1" diameter booms, only. I got 20' of decorative SS tubing in coquitlam and they cut it into 5, 4' lengths for me. was around 120 dollars then. I drilled the holes myself. some booms come out a little easier than others, and it gives an opportunity to upgrade to the newer pulley. hate those bent booms.

I have done it. Wouldn't go longer than 40" on the older style 1" boom riggers. Newer style 1 1/4" could handle around 50" booms. Scotty uses a telescopic boom to add strength when extending all the way. (over lap of 1" and 1 1/4" boom even when extended to 60")

Note, the longer the boom, the more stress to the mount area. Make sure it is a solid mount.

Not sure if you have a metal supermarkets on the mainland, but I was able to get 1" for $5 a foot.

Both styles are replaceable.

It can be done using off the shelf Scotty parts - I converted my old 30" into 60" telescoping..
And using 1.25 tubing and 1.00" tubing you can make it as long as you like! My fwd pair are 14' long and double as outriggers when tuna season

Good info, thanks for all of the reply's. I have Metal Supermarkets and Alaska Brass and Copper near by for materials.

i took my original scottie electrics to scottie and had the largest extension booms put on no problem ,they were ready next day.
