Sannich Inlet prawns

Was great last opening. Don't forget it's midnight the 15th,effectively the 16th

Yep,Inthebyte. Was out the last few days of the month out of Mill Bay. Limited out with ease every day. Not a lot of
Jumbos, but lots of medium sized ones. Had several traps with close to a 100 prawns. 230-250 ft. seemed to be the best.
Give it a go on the 16th.,It's definately worth the effort.

Me too! I will be the guy in the ski boat with wakeboard rack. Maybe this yr will be the yr fear a proper boat!

Was it ever!! Nice and chill over on the west side of the inlet. There's a pretty nice marina getting built over in Mill Bay.
Yah,that's a beauty marina,Dave S.Moored it there a couple of times now. $50.00 a week for 16.5 footer isn't too
bad,and saves the hassle of pulling in and out every day. Besides, that ramp there has got to be one of the worst on
the island!

I'm sure that price will go up once they start filling up, but thats a great deal right now. Especially if you have good weather during your time to take advantage of the crabbing and prawning. I'd like to take my lady out for dinner this summer once the restaurant is finished. Free moorage while your in the restaurant.

Was out today in the inlet, good numbers of prawns in all the traps which were spread all the way from Wain Rock to Senanus island. Judging from the seagull crowds around the other boats I saw it appears others were having a good time as well! Another awesome day on the water.

Personally I like the round traps since they stack up nice and can also hold your rope. Never had a problem getting my limit in the round ones so even if the ones you linked are more effective I don't think it's necessary.

I'd watch the used market not only to save money on the traps themselves but also because you can probably get some add ins like bait jars, rope, line weights, weight on the traps etc. Also some people say new traps don't fish as well as an older "seasoned" trap.

from what I understand the commi traps have a slighty bigger hole..? I have one old trap but the net is slightly stretched in places, no sense prawning if there just going to fall out on the way up. new net 30 bucks plus a few clips. thought id like one more. people seem to sell there shity ol traps for 50, id rather spend 80 on a brand spankin new one, hopfully they will season quickly. or the bauer you would never have to worry about stretching or snags. but my boat is smaller so space matters...

How many traps do you have and how many traps will you be fishing? You know if your doing 2-4 traps then the bauer may be the way to go. I always have 8-12 out so the round ones work best for me.

Your right some old commercal traps have loose mesh and do spill prawns out. I have one like that. I don't mind it because it helps sort out the small from the medium and large on the way up. Too tight a mesh and you get tiny prawns that you won't want to keep but when you have 50-100 prawns in a trap it's hard to pick out the little guys and let them go quickly. They usually end up out of the water for awhile reducing their survival rate plus the seagulls gather around and if your not careful tossing prawns back your just feeding the gulls.

It might sound like only an extra $30 each to buy new but consider you also need 3-400ft of rope, a bait jar, some weight for the trap and a float. Your now looking at over $120 per trap after tax. So $50 each if they come with everythig is not a bad deal. If you do go new I wouldn't worry too much about seasoning I have two traps that I got brand new and they fished fine the first set.
